The world is flat

Some time back, I had heard a lot about the book 'The world is flat' by Thomas Friedman. I finally got the chance to read this book, and I must say that I'm pretty impressed by it. It starts with how Christopher Columbus, while searching for India, reached America instead and realized that the world is round. Thomas Friedman says that he, on his visit to Bangalore, found that the world is flat.He goes on to describe the concept of outsourcing and off-shoring, and how the two main players in this, India and China are changing the global landscape.

Other than outsourcing and off-shoring, he talks about other flatteners such as the Internet, Netscape, Google etc. He talks about how important it is in today's world to be specialized otherwise one can get lost in the rat race and be nobody. The book is pretty detailed yet easy to understand. I believe anyone involved in the IT industry should read this book sometime or the other. A pretty accurate description of the rapidly changing economies of the developing world and how they will affect the developed world.
