Flog them bastards

"Two recently married women molested in front of a posh hotel in Juhu, Mumbai on New Year's Eve." As I write this, one dilemma comes to mind. Who the hell is to blame? The hotel authorities would say that the incident didn't happen on their property. The police would say they were already overworked during the New Year's and were short of men. Men. That is a word which we will have to redefine. The people who did it were not certainly men. Probably under the influence of alcohol, they became something undefinable and something dispeakable. And as if eve-teasing wasn't bad enough, these people have become so bold so as to openly grope and fondle women. And I speak not of this particular incident, but the general rising trend of such incidents which are becoming more and more common every passing day. What is more horrifying is that on the Net, people are actually searching for the pictures that the photographers have clicked rather than for the actual news item itself. And we say that we empathize with the victims. Sad, isn't it?

Now that the police have arrested some of the suspects, a long winded procedure will start the end of which is uncertain. To protect their identity and their self-respect, the victims may probably drop the case. Sometimes it feels to me that the corporal punishment practiced in some of the Gulf countries seems to be the best and the quickest method to punish the perpetrators. A severe flog in public on their naked, exposed skin will bring them back to reality and hopefully incapable of doing such a crime again, both mentally and 'physically.'

An interesting coincidence. The song playing in the background as I write this, 'Where is the love?'
