An eerie coincidence
I'm reading the book Maximum City by Suketu Mehta. I had bought this book because I had heard so much about it. The book lived upto and beyond my expectations. I was expecting a collection of stories about the humdrum life in Mumbai. But it is a powerful and potent look at the underbelly of the rotting city. A bold foray into the Mumbai underworld along with many other things. And that is what I found strange.
Last Sunday I was in Mumbai. At around 1pm I heard news about the Shiv Sena bandh. I did not know the reason then. At that very moment, I was reading a chapter in the previously mentioned book. Black collar workers, the underworld calls itself that. I'll quote some of the lines which I read that day sitting in Mumbai waiting for my train. I was waiting on platform one at Borivili station.
These are some quotes from the book:-
...but it won't be like last time; this time they are prepared and will respond instantly. Many people in far off places will die. The gangs have stockpiled equipment. "We have a rocket launcher but we haven't used it." Stinger missiles from the Afghan war have been distributed over the subcontinent, held in reserve for the next big riot...
...the tension is building every day. M**** speaks with fear ahead. What we can't imagine will happen. The next affair will happen all over the world...
And now I heard about the bomb blasts. The papers are saying these are the biggest since 1993. For me it is an eerie coincidence. Two days earlier I was at the same station where two bombs were placed. Four days later I'll be at the same station, with the same book in my hand.
May God give some strength to the relatives of those who died or were injured. Some guilt into those who perpetrated it. Some sense into the government for doing something about the common man's security.

May god also somehow give some permanant solution to such problems.
